CBU keeps unbeaten streak alive with 1-1 draw versus No. 12 West Florida

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Christian Brothers University men's soccer (5-3-3, 2-1-3 GSC) pulled off a 1-1 draw against nationally-ranked No. 12 West Florida (6-1-3, 4-0-3 GSC) on Friday night at Signaigo Field. The Bucs extended their unbeaten streak to five games with the result.

COACH'S REMARKS

"I'm really proud of the lads' fight tonight," said Head Coach Enda Crehan. "It's always a tough, hard-fought game with UWF. We'll dust ourselves off and get ready for Sunday now."

OF NOTE
  • Graduate midfielder Harry Laing scored his fourth goal of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • West Florida's Marcus Pereira scored in the sixth minute with an unbeatable shot from out wide to put CBU in the hole early.
  • The Bucs went on the hunt for an equalizer afterwards and eventually found it in the 36th minute. A CBU player was fouled inside the 18-yard box and a penalty kick was awarded. Laing stepped up to the mark and drilled a shot into the left side of the goal, 1-1.
  • Goalkeeper Vicent Sanchis Olmedo made three saves on five shots faced in the first half.
  • In the second half, both teams searched for the game-winner with six shots each.
  • An Argonaut was sent off in the 76th minute to give the Bucs a man advantage towards the end of the match.
  • UWF packed it in after going down a man. Russell Brown was able to break through the defense in the 83rd and 87th minutes for shots on goal, but both were denied by the opposing keeper.
