Christian Brothers places two runners in top 20 at GSC Cross Country Championships

CLINTON, Miss. – The Christian Brothers University men's and women's cross country teams competed at the 2024 Gulf South Conference Championships at Choctaw Trails on Saturday morning. The men's team placed sixth among 11 conference opponents while the women's team finished eighth in a field of 12 league championship contenders.

Two Buccaneers finished in the top 20 of their respective races to earn all-conference recognition. Junior Ethan Ackroyd  turned in a personal record time of 24:56.9 in the men's 8k to cross the finish line in 18th place. Meanwhile, fellow junior Meghan Turner registered a time of 23:05.6 in the women's 6k to finish in 17th place. They both garnered Second Team All-GSC honors for their performances at the meet.

In the men's race, senior Anton Lindberg narrowly missed out on all-conference recognition by finishing 22nd with a time of 25:05.00. His and Ackroyd's strong showings, coupled with solid runs by James Holcombe (26:19.6) and Joseph Arriaga (26:21.6), helped the Bucs achieve a respectable sixth place team finish.

In the women's race, senior Sonia Chavelas finished in the top half of the field along with teammate Meghan Turner. Chavelas crossed the finish line in 24:27.7 to place 36th out of 99 runners.
