Bucs Push Streak to Seven with Road Win at West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Christian Brothers University basketball team held West Alabama to just 35 percent shooting in a 68-61 win, on Thursday night, at Pruitt Hall. 

The Bucs have now won seven Gulf South Conference contests, which matches their longest streak since the 2007-08 team had the same streak. The victory gave CBU the season sweep over the Tigers, and also marked its first win at Pruitt Hall since 2018-19.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CBU scored the first six points, but the Tigers quickly responded with a 9-4 spurt. 
  • A three-pointer gave the Tigers a 15-14 lead with 9:41 left. 
  • With the score tied at 20, with six minutes left in the half, CBU used a 7-0 spurt to take a 27-20 lead with three minutes left in the half. 
  • Christian Jones knocked down a three-pointer, at the buzzer, to give the Bucs a 37-29 lead at the half. 
  • CBU held the hosts to just 28 percent shooting, including 4-15 from inside the three-point line. 
  • Leading 45-39, the Bucs scored seven straight to go up 52-39 with 11:29 left.
  • The Tigers cut the deficit to 62-56 with 2:27 left, but the Bucs hit all four of their free throw attempts to hold on for the win.

  • UWA entered the game 11-1 at home. 
  • The eight road wins for the Bucs are tied for most in the GSC. 
  • CBU shot 41 percent, while holding the Tigers to just 35.

  • Four of the five CBU starters had at least eight rebounds.
  • Christian Jones paced the Bucs with a game-high 21 points with eight rebounds and six assists. 
  • Anias Futrell added 18 points and eight boards. 
  • Madison Monroe finished with a double-double, posting 12 points and 11 rebounds. The double-double is his third of the season. 
UP NEXT
CBU is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, Feb. 23, when it travels to Huntsville, Ala., to face Alabama Huntsville. The Bucs lost a tightly-contested 61-60 decision to the Chargers on Jan. 6.
