Bucs Push Past Shorter

MEMPHIS – The Christian Brothers University men's basketball team never trailed as it pulled away for a 73-59 win over Shorter, on Thursday night, at Canale Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After the contest was tied at 13, the Bucs scored nine straight points to take a 22-13 lead with 7:44 left in the half. 
  • Shorter cut the deficit to 31-27, but Andrew Eberhardt knocked down a three-pointer to give the Bucs a 34-27 lead at the half. 
  • CBU led at the break despite shooting just 38 percent (12-32). 
  • The Bucs opened the second half on a 9-2 run to extend their lead to 43-29. 
  • Carter Selman knocked down a three-pointer to get the Hawks to within 51-46 with 9:03 left.
  • The Bucs were able to score 11 of the next 15 points to extend the lead to 68-52, with five minutes left, to help them earn the win. 
KEY STATS | NOTEABLES
  • After shooting just 38 percent in the first half, the Bucs bounced back to shoot 14-27 in the second half.
  • Shorter finished 44 percent from the floor. 
  • CBU hit 14 of its 18 free throw attempts, while Shorter was just 5-11. 
  • CBU outrebounded Shorter 42-28. The Bucs finished the contest with 14 offensive boards. 
  • The Bucs continue to lead the league with a 9.7 rebounding margin. 
  • Anias Futrell and Christian Jones led CBU with 18 points apiece. Futrell also added nine boards, while Jones had eight rebounds, eight assists and four steals. 
  • Christian Thompson had 13 points. 
UP NEXT
CBU is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, March 2 when it hosts Lee for Senior Day. TIpoff is scheduled for 3 PM. Should the Bucs earn a win against Lee, they will clinch a home game for the upcoming Gulf South Conference Tournament.
