MEMPHIS – The Christian Brothers University baseball team hung on for a 5-4 win over Shorter, on Friday afternoon, at Nadicksbernd Field.
Seven different Bucs recorded hits to help the Bucs win the Gulf South Conference series opener.

Cory Steinhauer single helped score what proved to be the game-winning run.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Bucs had the 9-7 advantage in hits.
- CBU had three extra-base hits.
- Jalen Smith led the Bucs going 2-3 with a triple and two RBIs.
- Dalton Pyzer and Royal Hobson both had solo home runs.
- Charlie Faoro and AJ Gamboa combined for seven strikeouts.
- Gamboa picked up the win, working 3.1 innings of scoreless relief with four strikeouts.

After Shorter had the tying runs on base in the seventh, and eighth innings, Gamboa retired the side in order to finish the game.
NOTEABLES:
- Hobson and Pyzer led the Bucs with six home runs this season.
- Hobson has a home run in four of the last five games, and a hit in the last 10.
- This is the Bucs first win over Shorter since 2019.
- The win for Gamboa is the first of his CBU career.
