MEMPHIS – The Christian Brothers University baseball team dropped a pair of slugfests to Shorter, on Saturday afternoon, at Nadicksbernd Field. The Hawks held on to take the opener 10-9 and hit its way to a 14-8 win in game two.
GAME ONE: SU 10 (10-7, 2-6 GSC) CBU 9 (8-9, 3-5 GSC)
GAME CHANGER:
The Hawks put up three runs in the seventh to secure the 10-9 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- CBU had a 17-13 advantage in hits
- Six Bucs had multiple hits.
- Four hits were for-extra bases.
- Ben Brocato led the way going 3-4 with a triple, a home run, and two RBIs.
- Gabe Walker went 3-5 with a home run.
- CBU left 11 runners stranded compared to seven for Shorter.
KEY PLAYS:
A Cory Stienhauer single started the scoring for the Bucs, tying the game at 1-1 after the first.
The Hawks plated four runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to go up 7-1.
CBU used a big six run frame, in the sixth, highlighted by a two-run home run from Brocato to tie the game at seven.
Shorter scored three in the seventh to go up 10-7.
The Bucs scored one run in the seventh and eighth to cut the deficit to 10-9.
CBU loaded the bases at the bottom of the ninth but was unable to score a run to extend the game.
GAME TWO: SU 14 (11-7, 3-6 GSC) CBU 8 (8-10, 3-6 GSC)

The Hawks scored nine unanswered runs in their first four trips to the plate.

Two RBI singles and a pair of bases loaded walks helped the Bucs cut the lead to 9-4.
Shorter plated four runs and CBU answered with three of its own, in the fifth, making the score 13-7.
