Walker's Game-Winning Home Run Gives Bucs Series Win Over Union

MEMPHIS - Gabe Walker hit a two-run walk-off home run in the to help give the Christian Brothers University baseball team an 8-7 win over Union, on Sunday afternoon, at Nadicksbernd Field.

The win gave the Bucs a Gulf South Conference series win over their in-state rivals, and their first GSC series victory of the season. 

CBU has now won five of its last six games against the Bulldogs. 


FINAL SCORE: CBU 8 (10-12, 5-7 GSC) UU 7 (9-13, 4-8 GSC)

GAME CHANGER:

Gabe Walker hit a walk-off 2-run home run in the 9th inning to give the Bucs the 8-7 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Bucs finished with four extra-base hits, including two doubles and a pair of home runs.
  • CBU finished with a 8-5 advantage in hits.
  • Cory Steinhauer led the way going 3-5 with a double, a home run, and three RBIs.
  • Gabe Walker went 2-5 with a home run and two RBIs.
  • Three CBU pitchers combined for seven strikeouts and left 10 Bulldogs stranded.
KEY PLAYS:
Union jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the top of the third.
CBU used a three-run fourth inning, highlighted by RBI singles from Matthew McDaniel, Clay Facteau and Royal Hobson to tie the game at three.
Union retook the lead in the top of the fifth, but again the Bucs tied it up at four with a home run from Cory Steinhauer.
Union extended its lead 7-4 after the top of the sixth inning.
Steinhauer had a two-run double in the seventh to get the Bucs to within 7-6.
With two outs, Clay Facteau was hit by a pitch, leaving him on base when Gabe Walker hit a home run to score the game-winning run.

NOTEABLES:
  • This was the Bucs fourth walk-off win of the season.
  • The homer uns for Steinhauer and Walker mark their second of the season.
