West Florida Uses Big Inning to Defeat Bucs

PENSACOLA, FL. - The Christian Brothers University baseball team fell 7-3 to the University of West Florida, in the opening game of the Gulf South Conference series, on Friday evening, at Jim Spooner Field. 

 

FINAL SCORE: CBU 3 (10-14, 5-8 GSC) UWF 7 (15-6, 8-2 GSC)

 

GAME CHANGER: 

The Argonauts scored five runs in the seventh inning to lock in the win. 

 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

  • West Florida had a slight advantage in hits, 8-7.

  • Three Bucs had multiple hits.

  • Ben Brocato led the way going 2-4 with one run scored and one RBI.

  • Clay Facteau and Gabe Walker both went 2-4 with an RBI each.

  • The CBU pitching staff recorded five strikeouts and left 13 runners stranded.

KEY PLAYS: 

CBU opened up the scoring with one run in the second inning with an RBI single from Gabe Walker making it 1-0. 

The Argonauts tied the game in the bottom of the second inning at 1-1. 

The Bucs again took the lead at 2-1 with an RBI single from Clay Facteau in the top of the third inning. 

UWF again tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning. 

The game remained tight until the Bucs regained the lead in the top of seventh inning making it 3-2 from an RBI single from Ben Brocato

The Argonauts then scored five in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the win at 7-3. 

 

UP NEXT: 

The Bucs return to action on Saturday, March 16 when they finish the series at West Florida. First pitch for the double header is set for 1PM CT, second game to follow.
