MEMPHIS – The Christian Brothers University baseball team hit their way to a 12-6 win over Lane College, on Tuesday afternoon at Nadicksbernd Field.
FINAL SCORE: CBU 12 (11-16) Lane College 6 (10-15)
GAME CHANGER:
The Bucs plated 7 runs in three innings to secure the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Mitsuki Kono led the way going 3-4 with a triple and two RBIs.
- Jalen Smith went 2-5 with a home run and three RBIs.
- Five Bucs each recorded 2 or more RBIs in their at bats.
- The CBU pitching staff recorded five strikeouts and left 10 runners stranded.
- The Bucs had a 15-9 advantage in hits and converted two doubles plays.
KEY PLAYS:
Lane jumped to an early lead with 3 runs in the top of the second inning.
The Bucs hit their way to a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the second, with a Carson McCaleb solo homerun, a Mitsuki Kohno RBI triple, a Royal Hobson RBI single, and a Dalton Pyzer RBI single.
The Dragons then tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the third inning, but that score would not last long.
The Bucs scored seven runs in the next three frames to extend the lead to 11-4, led by a Jalen Smith 3-run homer.
CBU added an additional run from an Andrew Reed RBI single in the bottomof the seventh to extedn the lead to 12-4.
Lane scored two more runs in the ninth inning to cut the Bucs lead to 12-6, however it would not be enough.
NOTEABLES:
- The home run for Smith is the first of his career.
- Hobson stole three bases to extend his lead for most steals across all divisions in NCAA baseball to 26.
