Bucs Use Extra Innings to Defeat Mississippi College

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Cory Steinhauer hit a walk-off single in the 10th inning to give the Christian Brothers University baseball team a 12-11 win over Mississippi College, on Friday afternoon, at Nadicksbernd Field.   

FINAL SCORE: CBU 12 (14-25, 6-19 GSC) MC 11 (16-20, 7-15 GSC)

GAME CHANGER: 

Cory Steinhauer hit a walk-off single in the 10th inning to bring in the winning run for the Bucs 12-11 victory. 

 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

  • The Bucs finished with five extra-base hits, including three doubles and a pair of home runs. 

  • CBU finished with a 16-12 advantage in hits.

  • Royal Hobson went 3-4 with a double and 2 runs scored.

  • Cory Steinhauer went 3-6 with three RBIs and 1 run scored. 

  • The CBU pitching staff combined for five strikeouts and left nine Choctaws stranded.
     

KEY PLAYS: 

CBU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning from a 2 RBI home run by Dalton Pyzer.

The Choctaws then tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning. 

Mississippi College then extended their lead with 3 more runs making it 5-2 going into the bottom of the sixth. 

The Bucs added 2 runs from a Carson McCaleb 2 RBI home run to cut the lead to 5-4. 

The Choctaws used a big eighth inning to extend their lead with 6 runs to make it 11-4.  

The Bucs answered back with 7 runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to force extra innings. This inning was highlighted by a Cory Steinhauer 2 RBI single and a Jalen Smith 2 RBI double. 

CBU's defense held MC scoreless in the top of the tenth inning and would secure a walk off win from a Cory Steinhauer RBI single bringing in Sam Walker to win the game 12-11. 

 

NOTEABLES: 

  • The Bucs came back from a 7 run deficit to secure the victory. 

  • This was the Bucs fifth walk-off win of the season.

  • The homerun for McCaleb marked his 5th of the season and the homerun for Pyzer marked his 10th of the season. 

  • Royal Hobson added 2 more stolen bases to his total, still leading the GSC with 36. 
     

UP NEXT: 

The Bucs return to action on Saturday, April 13 for a doubleheader senior day matchup against Mississippi College. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM CT.
