Bucs Fall Short in Extra Innings

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Christian Brothers University baseball team fell in extra innings to Lane College, on Tuesday afternoon at the Ballpark at Jackson.

 

FINAL SCORE: Lane College 9 (18-20) CBU 8 (14-28)

 

GAME CHANGER: 

The Dragons used an eleventh inning run to secure the walk off win. 

 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

  • Both teams had 13 hits throughout the 11 innings. 

  • Ben Brocato and Clay Facteau both went 3-6 with two doubles and one RBI.

  • The Bucs converted one double play. 

  • The CBU pitching staff recorded four strikeouts and left seven runners stranded.


KEY PLAYS: 

CBU began the scoring in the top of the fifth inning making it 1-0 from a Ben Brocato double. 

Lane hit their way to a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. 

Will Gossett added a homerun for the Bucs making it 5-2 in the top of the seventh inning. 

The Bucs scored 2 more runs in the eighth inning to tie the game at 5-5, from a Will Gossett RBI single and a Royal Hobson 2 RBI single. 

CBU took the lead 7-5 in the ninth inning from a Clay Facteau RBI double and scored from a wild pitch. 

Lane scored 2 more runs in the ninth inning to tie the game at 7-7 and force extra innings. 

Sam Walker hit a sacrifice fly RBI to regain the lead for the Bucs, 8-7 in the tenth inning. 

Lane was able to rally and score one run making it 8-8 and forcing an eleventh inning. 

The Bucs offense was not able to score, allowing Lane to achieve the walk off win 9-8 in the bottom of the eleventh inning.  

 

NOTEABLES: 

  • Royal Hobson stole 5 bases in the game to extend his lead for most steals in the Gulf South Conference, now totaling 41 stolen bases.
     

UP NEXT: 

The Bucs return to action on Friday, April 19 when they travel to Valdosta, GA to take on Valdosta State University in a Gulf South Conference series. First pitch is set for 4:00 PM CT.
