While there were few wins on the court for the Lady Bucs in the 2023-24 season, the year provided a foundation on which to build for the future. Under new head coach
Addie Lees, the Lady Bucs posted a record of 2-26 overall and 2-22 in Gulf South Conference play.
Coach Lees, who has won everywhere she has previously coached, had to juggle multiple injuries throughout most of the season and by the end of the year, there were as many players injured as there were healthy. The injury list included leading scorer and rebounder
Jeremia Montgomery, an AllConference performer the season before.
The injuries did provide a silver lining in that several players were able to get valuable playing experience. That's a positive for the program heading into next season.
Chloe Crawford (Jr., Toledo, Ohio) carried the team offensively in Montgomery's absence averaging 10 points per game for the year. Crawford finished tenth in the Gulf South in three pointers made per game with 1.8.
CBU's signature win of the season came when the team was fully healthy defeating West Georgia by 11 points. West Georgia qualified for the GSC tournament at season's end. Individual highlights included
Kallie Searcy (Sr. Chattanooga, Tenn.) finishing sixth in the conference in blocked shots and
Tae Leatherwood (Jr., Tuscaloosa, Ala.) finishing 12th in assists.
Coach Lees has said that recruiting for next season is going very well and that potential players are expressing strong desires to play for CBU next year and turn the program around. Based on Coach Lees' track record at previous schools of turning around programs, the future is indeed bright for the Lady Bucs.
