Bucs Fall Short at Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss. - The Christian Brothers University baseball team fell 9-7 to Delta State University, in the opening game of the Gulf South Conference series, on Friday afternoon, at Harvey Stadium. 

FINAL SCORE: DSU 9 (22-14, 13-6 GSC) CBU 7 (13-23, 5-17 GSC)

GAME CHANGER: 

The Statesmen scored four runs in the seventh inning to retake the lead and secure the win. 

 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

  • CBU had an advantage in hits 14-11.

  • Two Bucs had home runs.

  • Dalton Pyzer led the way going 2-5 with a double and a home run. 

  • Royal Hobson went 3-5 with a 3 RBI home run. 

  • The CBU pitching staff recorded eight strikeouts and left ten runners stranded.


KEY PLAYS: 

Delta State opened up the scoring with one run in the second inning to take the lead 1-0.

The Bucs answered back with 7 runs in the fourth inning from a Dalton Pyzer home run, a Clay Facteau 2 RBI double, a Carson McCaleb sacrifice fly, and a Royal Hobson 3 RBI home run. 

The Statesmen slowly chipped away from their large deficit with 4 runs by the end of the sixth inning, making the score 7-5. 

DSU then scored four in the bottom of the eighth inning and held CBU scoreless in the ninth inning to secure the win at 9-7.
