CBU edged by Florida Southern with an unfortunate turn of events

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Christian Brothers University men's soccer (2-1-0) was edged by Florida Southern (2-0-1) in a 2-1 unfortunate defeat for the Bucs at the Memphis Sports and Events Center on a rainy Friday afternoon. CBU was undone by a pair of late goals in quick succession, but was resilient enough to get one goal back before the bitter end of the match.

OF NOTE
  • Senior George Chandler scored the first goal of his CBU career. He assisted on a goal in Christian Brothers' previous match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first half was a stalemate with neither side able to break through with a go-ahead goal.
  • The Buccaneers outshot the Moccasins, 6-4, in the opening 45 minutes.
  • CBU put Florida Southern's goalkeeper to work with 3-of-6 shots on target.
  • Christian Brothers' Jakob Morales made a brilliant save towards the end of the first half to keep the contest scoreless at the break.
  • The game remained scoreless until the 76th minute when FSC scored on a breakaway. Sander Trevor set up Darcy Moffat for the game-changing goal, 1-0.
  • CBU responded by earning a penalty kick just two minutes after the go-ahead goal. George Chandler's penalty kick ricocheted off the crossbar, however.
  • The Moccasins flew down to the other side of the pitch after the penalty miss and were awarded a penalty kick of their own. Moffat converted his penalty kick, 2-0.
  • Chandler made up for his penalty miss by scoring a goal in the dying embers of the contest, 2-1. Not enough time remained for the Bucs to equalize.
