Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Christian Brothers volleyball showed focus and determination on the road Thursday night, battling past Auburn Montgomery in a back-and-forth five-set showdown, 3–2 (25–23, 27–29, 25–9, 24–26, 15–13).
The Lady Bucs (7–9, 2–3 GSC) came out strong, taking a close first set behind timely kills from Addison Waggoner and Ella Schumacher. After AUM edged out the second set in extra points, CBU stormed back in dominant fashion, rolling to a 25–9 win in the third set thanks to a balanced attack and serving pressure.
The Warhawks (1–11, 0–4 GSC) refused to go away, clawing back in the fourth to force a deciding set. In the fifth, CBU leaned on its experience and composure, with Schumacher delivering clutch swings and Sarah Helms providing a key block to seal the match at 15–13.
CBU spread the offense around with multiple standouts. Schumacher led the team with 20 kills, hitting .340 on the night, while Waggoner added 19 kills and 19 digs for a double-double. Helms was nearly unstoppable, recording 11 kills without an error for a .500 hitting percentage. Setter Carleiny Morillo directed the offense with 29 assists and 12 digs, while libero Sophia Nowacki anchored the defense with 21 digs.
The Lady Bucs also controlled the service line with 10 aces, including four from Lilly Oxford, which kept AUM on its heels. Defensively, the team racked up 89 digs and 9 total blocks, showcasing balance and determination across the board.
With the victory, CBU picks up its second Gulf South Conference win of the season and builds momentum heading into the next stretch of league play.
