Huntsville, AL- Christian Brothers University men's basketball finally broke into the win column on Sunday afternoon, delivering their most complete performance of the young season in a commanding 94–67 win over Bluefield University at the SportsMED Arena in Huntsville, Alabama. The victory marks the first win of the season for the Bucs and a major momentum shift as they continue to find their identity.
From the opening tip, CBU played with energy and purpose, exploding for 42 points in the first half and maintaining control the rest of the way with a 52-point second half. The Bucs shot an impressive 37-for-65 from the field, including 11 made threes, and dominated the paint with 50 points inside. Their ball movement was crisp and confident, leading to 17 assists on 37 made buckets.
But the star of the night, and perhaps of the season so far, was Iman Kheirati, who delivered a scorching performance. The senior guard poured in 30 points on 11-of-17 shooting, including 4-of-6 from deep, while also grabbing 9 rebounds and adding 2 steals. His scoring stretches fueled CBU at crucial moments, and he played with the confidence of a true leader.
He wasn't alone.
Marquis Gill followed with a dynamic outing of his own, finishing with 25 points, 6 assists, and a pair of steals while knocking down three triples. His ability to create separation and push the pace helped the Bucs consistently beat Bluefield down the floor.
Max Cain added 14 points, connecting on multiple threes and finishing strong at the rim, while Caleb Gaitor chipped in 11 points and 5 assists, showing excellent control of the offense.
On the defensive end, CBU was just as impressive. The Bucs racked up 6 blocks, including 4 emphatic swats from Nigel Quaynor, who also pulled down 8 rebounds and controlled the paint on both ends.
The Bucs also won the rebounding battle convincingly, pulling down 44 total boards, including 34 on the defensive glass. Their effort held Bluefield to just 36% shooting on the day.
Bluefield's standout was DJ McDonald, who posted a 21-point, 10-rebound double-double, but CBU's depth, pace, and execution were too much to handle.
From start to finish, this was exactly the type of breakthrough performance the Bucs needed. They played fast, they played together, and they played with confidence, earning not only their first win of the season, but a dominant one that showcased their potential.
Final Score:
Christian Brothers 94, Bluefield College 67
A strong step forward, and a big moment for a team hungry to build momentum.
