HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Christian Brothers University men's basketball (9-14, 5-12 GSC) could not keep pace with the high-powered offense of No. 4 Alabama Huntsville (23-1, 18-0 GSC), falling 72-55 in Gulf South Conference action Thursday night at Spragins Hall.
Iman Kheirati led the Bucs with a game-high 17 rebounds, anchoring a relentless effort on the boards, but Christian Brothers struggled to convert on offense, shooting just 32.8 percent from the field and 21.1 percent from three-point range. The Chargers, meanwhile, showcased their efficiency, hitting 45.6 percent of their attempts and going 13-for-15 from the free-throw line.
First-Half Battle
CBU opened the game with intensity, keeping pace with UAH in the early minutes.
Christian Thompson provided a steady presence in the paint, finishing with 15 points and eight rebounds.
Tane Kirisome added 13 points, including a pair of three-pointers, while Kheirati contributed 12 points to go with his rebounding dominance.
Despite the Bucs' best efforts, Alabama Huntsville's Tommy Murr caught fire, scoring a game-high 27 points on 9-of-17 shooting. His three-pointer at the 10:45 mark in the first half pushed the Chargers ahead, and they maintained a six-point cushion heading into the break, leading 34-28.
Chargers Pull Away
UAH took control early in the second half, using a 7-0 scoring run to stretch its lead to double digits. The Chargers capitalized on fast-break opportunities and stifled CBU's offense, holding them to just 27 second-half points. Murr continued to lead the charge, and Matthew Thurman added seven points and four rebounds in the half to help UAH to a 19-point advantage—their largest lead of the game—around the six-minute mark of the final period.
Christian Brothers managed to stay active on the glass, collecting 15 second-chance points for the game, but offensive inefficiency proved costly. The Bucs committed 11 turnovers, leading to 15 fast-break points for the Chargers.
