Baseball Sweeps Lane, Extends Winning Streak to Five Games

Christian Brothers swept Lane College winning both ends of the doubleheader in Memphis by scores of 7-4 and 7-2.  The wins extend CBU's current winning streak to five games heading into a weekend Gulf South Conference series at home against Lee.

GAME 1
Trailing 4-2 after two innings, CBU scored four runs in the third to take the lead for good. Cory Steinhauer singled, moved to second on an error and stole third. With one out, both Jalen Smith and Seth Brown walked to load the bases. Patrick Mangels was hit by a pitch to force in one run followed by a walk to Andrew Reed and a hit batsmen by Nick Petruzello to push across the other two giving the Bucs a 5-2 lead. CBU added two insurance runs in the sixth inning. Jackson Licata singled, stole second and scored on a double by Steinhauer. Steinhauer then scored on a single by Sam Walker.

Michael Larson picked up his first win for the Bucs pitching six innings allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out three. Dylan Bowers pitched a scoreless seventh to pick up his first save.

GAME TWO
Trailing 1-0, CBU tied it in the third inning on an RBI single by Will Gossett scoring Shakai Matthews. After Lane regained the lead with a run in the fourth, CBU erupted for six runs in the final two innings to claim the win. RBI singles by Seth Brown and Jackson Licata gave the Bucs a 3-2 lead in the fifth. The Bucs added four runs in the sixth on two hits, four walks and a sacrifice fly.

Four CBU pitchers limited the Dragons with Dylan Anders picking up the win in relief to go 1-0 for the season. Weber Denman pitched two strong innings to start the game. Michael Hanna allowed only one run in two innings of work and Xavier Caldwell pitched a perfect seventh inning to secure the win.

The Bucs next host Lee University in a Gulf South Conference series with a single game Friday and a doubleheader Saturday.
