ROLLA, Mo. – Christian Brothers University women's soccer kicked off its 2025 season on the road Thursday evening. They faced a tough Missouri S&T squad that capitalized on key opportunities to take a 4-0 win at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
Despite the scoreline, CBU showed flashes of promise throughout the match, with several moments that demonstrated the team's potential and fight—especially against a Miner squad celebrating its first season-opening win in four years.
The Buccaneers' standout moment came in the 23rd minute when forward Elisa Cruz broke through S&T's back line and forced a quality save from goalkeeper Anastasia Barcom.
Junior goalkeeper Maria Carrico was called upon early and often, making several critical stops and showing poise under pressure in her collegiate debut. The Bucs' backline battled throughout the contest, gaining valuable early-season experience while facing a Missouri S&T attack that converted a pair of set pieces and took advantage of two quick transitions in each half.
The Bucs also managed to create offensive chances of their own, earning two corner kicks and pushing forward even late in the match. The effort and energy remained high until the final whistle, a reflection of the team's mindset and preparation under head coach Osmond.
CBU (0-1) now looks ahead to its next matchup on September 7th as they continues the early non-conference schedule with a focus on building chemistry, sharpening execution, and turning opportunities into results.
