Stemmildt Announces Her Arrival With Historic Run at Memphis Twilight Classic

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Christian Brothers University freshman Eleni Stemmildt wasted little time making her mark, turning in a historic performance at the City Auto Memphis Twilight XC Classic.

Stemmildt completed the 5K in 18:10, finishing 15th overall in a highly competitive field featuring several NCAA Division I programs. She was also the second NCAA Division II runner to cross the finish line, competing near the front against runners from programs including Ole Miss, Alabama, Middle Tennessee and Arkansas State.

Her 18:10 performance also marked the fastest time ever recorded by a CBU woman at the Memphis Twilight Classic.

The performance moved Stemmildt ahead of one of the most accomplished runners in CBU history, Johanna Wistokat, who ran 18:17.74 at the event in 2022. Wistokat went on to become a two-time All-American, 2022 Gulf South Conference individual champion and NCAA South Region champion.

Stemmildt, a freshman from Frankfurt, Germany, averaged approximately 5:51 per mile and finished ahead of numerous Division I competitors.

With one of the fastest performances of the weekend by a Division II runner and a new CBU benchmark at one of Memphis' premier cross country events, Stemmildt has quickly established herself as a runner to watch as the Buccaneers continue the 2026 season.

For Stemmildt, 18:10 wasn't just a strong early-season performance, it was a historic start to her CBU career.
