CLEVELAND, Miss. — Christian Brothers responded in a big way Wednesday afternoon, bouncing back from its previous loss with a commanding 4-0 victory over Delta State at Delta Field.
With Gulf South Conference play on the horizon, the Buccaneers delivered the type of complete performance they were looking for, combining an aggressive attack with a shutout on the defensive end to improve to 2-3 overall.
CBU wasted little time setting the tone. The Bucs generated pressure from the opening minutes and broke through at the 10:44 mark, taking a 1-0 advantage into halftime.
The Buccaneers then took complete control after the break.
Matthias Ran De Berg doubled the advantage with a penalty kick at the 45-minute mark before Chase Duvernay found the back of the net in the 79th minute off an assist from Daiki Ebihara. Michael Sanders put the finishing touch on the victory at 85:18, converting a feed from Harry Pedersen to make it 4-0.
The offensive performance was matched by an impressive effort on the other end of the field. CBU finished with a 16-11 advantage in shots while holding Delta State to just two shots on goal. Starting goalkeeper Grant Clothier made two saves in more than 85 minutes of action before Ewan Mullett helped close out the clean sheet.
More importantly, the performance sends CBU into the weekend with confidence as the Buccaneers prepare to turn their attention toward their Gulf South Conference opener.
