MALIBU, Calif.—The Christian Brothers University Bucs won the D-II portion of the Pepperdine Invitational Saturday, taking fifth place overall in the meet as they ran against mostly Division I competition.

Senior Stephen Hill (Collierville, Tenn./Houston HS) led for most of the race before finishing in second place, running the men's 8k course in 24:50, five seconds behind Fresno State's Erick Garcia.  John Waldorf (South Elgin, Ill./St. Edward HS) finished in 26th place, with a time of 26:27, while Nate Spears (Dayton, Ohio/Beavercreek HS) was 30th in 26:43.  Max Group (Dayton, Ohio/Beavercreek HS) and Jordan Michael (Arlington, Tenn./Bolton HS) rounded out the CBU scoring by finishing 33rd and 45th, respectively.

The Bucs finished with 21 points in the D-II scoring, with Waldorf finishing second, Spears fourth, Group sixth, and Michael eighth.  In the overall scoring, the Bucs' 122 points were good for fifth, ahead of D-I teams from Pepperdine and Cal State Northridge as well as D-II teams Notre Dame de Namur and Georgia College & State.  UC Irvine won the meet with 57 points, as their sixth-place runner broke the tie with both Fresno State and Drake.

The Lady Bucs finished 10th overall and second in D-II, led by a 74th-place finish from Kelly Summons (Memphis, Tenn./St. Agnes Academy).  Rachael Haag (Memphis, Tenn./St. Agnes Academy) and Brittly Butler (Dyersburg, Tenn./Dyersburg HS) finished 82nd and 83rd, and Porsha Chillis (Memphis, Tenn./East HS) and Heather Gosnell (Brighton, Tenn./Brighton HS) rounded out the Lady Bucs' scoring, while Emily Wong (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) provided the sixth-place finisher tiebreaker in the D-II scoring.

The CBU cross country teams have one more regular season meet left, Saturday morning at the Ted Lloyd Bison Stampede in Searcy, Ark.
