Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Bucs made 10 three-pointers as they edged LeMoyne-Owen 72-70 in the season opener for both squads Saturday night.

The Bucs (1-0) struggled in the first half, shooting just 41.7 percent and committing 11 turnovers as they went into the locker room down by a point.  After the break, the Bucs' shooting picked up, as they shot 61.9 percent in the second half, including 6-of-9 from three-point range.

The Bucs seized control in the final nine minutes of the game after a back-and-forth first 31 minutes that saw seven ties and six lead changes.  After the Magicians (0-1) took a 50-46 lead on a pair of LaDarius Johnson free throws, Reggie Peyton (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) made a three-pointer to spark an 11-1 run that gave the Bucs the lead for good at 57-51, though they could never extend the lead beyond six points.  The Magicians cut the lead to two points in the final seconds, but their desperation shot at the buzzer missed, giving the Bucs their first win of the season.

Sophomore forward Connor Wetzel (Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming HS) made a big impression in his first CBU game, making five three-pointers as he scored a game-high 20 points.  Senior center Nick Kohs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East HS) turned in another double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Peyton had 15 points and four steals.  Brandon Shane (Greenfield, Tenn./Greenfield HS) added 10 points.

Rasul Buluu led the Magicians with 19 points, while Jihad Sharif, Darren Green, and Maurice Mickens each scored 11.  Deandre Gant scored 10 points off the bench.

The Bucs will look to make it a 2-0 start Monday night at 7 p.m. as they take on Mid-Continent (Ky.).
