Box Score HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.—After a nip-and-tuck first half, the Christian Brothers University Bucs out-scored Cincinnati-Clermont 49-20 in the second half on their way to an 87-53 win Friday in the John L. Griffin/Lions Club Classic at Northern Kentucky University's Bank of Kentucky Center.
The Bucs (3-0) struggled out of the gate, trailing 27-21 after an A.J. Frazier three-pointer with 9:44 to play in the first half, but a
Kyle Couvion (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville HS) three-pointer sparked a 13-2 run that would put the Bucs ahead 34-29.
The Cougars (1-3) came back to tie the game at 41 with 16:07 remaining, but the Bucs would outscore them 46-12 the rest of the way.
Nick Kohs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East HS) kept up the production that won him the GSC Player of the Week award, pouring in 27 points with 15 rebounds and five assists in 35 minutes.
Reggie Peyton (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) had 16 points, while
Kyle Couvion (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville HS) turned in a balanced box score with seven points, eight assists, seven rebounds, and five steals.
Connor Wetzel (Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming HS) made three three-pointers on his way to a 13-point night.
Seth Steele led UCC with 18 points. Ryan Pope added 11, while Ian Gordon chipped in with 10.
The Bucs will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at 4:30 p.m. as they face Olivet Nazarene in the second day of the John L. Griffin/Lions Club Classic.
