Nick Kohs led the Bucs to a 51-46 win over No. 11 North Alabama with 16 points and 15 rebounds.
Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Bucs remained unbeaten in South Region play with a 51-46 win over No. 11 North Alabama Wednesday night at Canale Arena.

With the Bucs struggling to shoot, the Bucs (6-1) turned loose a smothering defense, holding the high-scoring Lions (5-2) to just 16-of-50 (32 percent) from the floor.  UNA entered the game averaging 83.8 points per game and shooting 46 percent as a team.

The Lions led for the whole first half until back-to-back threes by Kyle Couvion (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville HS) and Reggie Peyton (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) gave the Bucs a 26-25 lead in the final seconds despite shooting just 10-of-33 (30.3 percent) from the floor and 3-of-17 (17.2 percent) from three-point range in the first half.

The Bucs didn't warm up in the second half, but they clamped down on the other end, limiting the Lions to just 6-of-27 (22.2 percent) in the second half as they scored just 21 points.

The Bucs seized control with a 10-minute stretch starting with Couvion's three-pointer with 47 seconds remaining in the first half.  They out-scored the Lions 23-8 over that stretch, allowing two Isaac Gay three-pointers and two Jerelle Reddin free throws.  Nick Kohs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East HS) capped off the run with an emphatic dunk that gave the Bucs a 43-33 lead with 10:57 remaining.

The Lions answered with nine straight points to pull within a point, but another Kohs dunk snapped the run, and the Bucs never relinquished the lead.  Freshman Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) iced the game in the final seconds by making three-of-four free throws.

Kohs led the Bucs with 16 points, 15 rebounds, and two blocks.  Couvion and Peyton scored 10 points each, while Dennis turned in a strong all-around line with eight points, 12 rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Gay led the Lions with 12 points, while Thomas Fraise posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.  Phil Collins scored all of his 10 points in the first half.

The Bucs will hit the road Saturday night as they visit Alabama-Huntsville at 7 p.m. for another South Region matchup.  Their next home game is Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against Ecclesia.
