MEMPHIS—Visiting Montevallo edged the Christian Brothers University Bucs by one goal for the fourth straight meeting, taking a 2-1 win in the Gulf South Conference opener for both schools Saturday night at Signaigo Field.
The Falcons (5-4, 1-0 GSC) struck first in the 10th minute as Otavio Tramontina curled a long shot into the top left corner. The Bucs (3-5-1, 0-1) drew even in the 43rd minute as
Craig De Melo (Langley, B.C./Langley Secondary School) served a cross into the box, and
Zach Tubinis (Memphis, Tenn./Houston HS) headed it home for the equalizer, his second goal of the year.
The Falcons scored the game-winner in the 54th minute, however, as Jonathan Maloney broke through to take a lead pass from Nathaniel Foster, and he found the net for his eighth goal of the year.
The Bucs out-shot Montevallo 10-9, but the Falcons had a 5-1 edge in shots on goal.
The Bucs will return to the field Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. as they visit Delta State for a GSC game.
