Bucs Win DSU Invitational

Hill claims second individual title

Stephen Hill won the Delta State Invitational Saturday morning, helping the Bucs to their first-ever team championship.
CLEVELAND, Miss.—The Christian Brothers University men’s cross-country team won the Delta State Invitational Saturday, the first event championship in the 12-year history of the program, while the Lady Bucs finished fifth of seven in the meet.

The Bucs were led by senior All-American Stephen Hill (Collierville, Tenn./Houston HS), who claimed his second individual championship, following a win at Rhodes two years ago.  Hill edged Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s Moses Alukunyang by three seconds in the 6k race, winning with a time of 18:45.54.

Freshman Nate Spears (Dayton, Ohio/Beavercreek HS) finished fourth in 19:31, followed by senior John Waldorf (South Elgin, Ill./St. Edward HS) in seventh place 17 seconds later.  Sophomore Max Group (Dayton, Ohio/Beavercreek HS) was ninth in 20:06, while junior Jordan Michael (Arlington, Tenn./Bolton HS) rounded out the Bucs’ scoring 18 seconds later.

The Bucs finished first with 32 points, four ahead of UAPB’s 36.  Mississippi Valley State was third with 76 points, while Blue Mountain (84), Belhaven (127), and Lane (169) rounded out the field.

The Lady Bucs also ran well, finishing fifth of seven, knocking off D-I Mississippi Valley State and Lane.  Montevallo won the women’s race with 37 points, followed by UAPB (46), Delta State (75), and Belhaven (80) in front of CBU’s 109 points.

Kelly Summons (Memphis, Tenn./St. Agnes Academy) was the Lady Bucs’ top finisher, as she finished 18th in 22:52.

The Bucs and Lady Bucs will be back in action next weekend as they host the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic at Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
