Defense, Rebounding Lift Bucs 57-49

Nick Kohs led the Bucs with 19 points and 16 rebounds in a 57-48 win over Alabama-Huntsville Monday night at Canale Arena.
Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Bucs wrapped up their non-conference schedule on a high note with a 57-48 win over Alabama-Huntsville Monday night at Canale Arena.

The Bucs (11-2) took control with a 21-3 run over an 11-minute stretch of the first half where they shut out the Chargers (7-5) from the field, only allowing three UAH free throws.  A Reggie Peyton (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) three sparked the run, cutting the Charger lead to 12-11 with just under 14 minutes remaining in the half, and he finished the run with a basket in the paint that gave CBU a 29-15 edge with 5:03 to play in the first half.

After a UAH score broke the run, back-to-back Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) threes gave CBU a 35-18 lead just before the break.  The Chargers never came closer than six points again.

The Bucs won the game on the boards, out-rebounding UAH 46-29 as Dennis and Nick Kohs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East HS) combined to grab as many rebounds as the entire UAH team.  Kohs posted his first double-double in six games with 19 points and 16 rebounds, while Dennis had career highs of 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Kael Coleman led UAH with 12 points, while Tyler Hanback added 10 off the bench.

Both teams played excellent defense, as the shooting percentages mirrored the temperature outside Canale Arena.  The Bucs were just 33.9 percent (19-of-56) to the Chargers' 32 percent (16-of-50).

The Bucs will open Gulf South Conference West Division play on the road Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. as they visit No. 5 Arkansas-Monticello.
