Eagles Edge Bucs 4-3 in Overtime

Andrew Ballard scored in the 82nd minute, but the Bucs dropped a 4-3 decision in overtime to Southern Indiana Sunday afternoon.
MEMPHIS—Visiting Southern Indiana edged the Christian Brothers University Bucs 4-3 in overtime Sunday afternoon at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex.

The Screaming Eagles (4-10-1) took the lead early as Jeff McClure scored on a 34th-minute penalty, and an own goal in the 42nd minute made it 2-0.

The Bucs (4-8-1), however, controlled the second half.  They scored on an own goal in the 53rd minute, and Clark Bradford (Blackburn, England/Ribblesdale HS) tied the game on a penalty.  Andrew Ballard (Memphis, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) gave the Bucs a 3-2 lead with an 82nd-minute goal from the right side, but USI's Danny Pratte scored the equalizer on a free kick with just seconds remaining in regulation.

In the 98th minute, McClure found Simon Rawnsley on a through ball, and Rawnsley scored the game-winner for the Eagles.

The Bucs out-shot USI 21-11, including an 11-7 edge in shots on goal, but USI keeper Keenan Johnson made eight saves to keep the Eagles in the game.

The Bucs return to Gulf South Conference play Wednesday night against Ouachita Baptist.  Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Briarcrest High School.
