EADS—The Christian Brothers University Bucs scored two goals late in the first half to pull away for a 3-0 Gulf South Conference win over Ouachita Baptist Wednesday night at Briarcrest High School.
The Bucs (5-8-1, 2-1 GSC) struck first as
Clark Bradford (Blackburn, England/Ribblesdale HS) juked a defender and then fired a shot into the right corner in the 31st minute.
Alex Bermel (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) tacked on a 41st-minute score to give the Bucs a 2-0 lead at the intermission.
After a back-and-forth 30 minutes to start the second half,
Matt Sihvonen (Covington, La./St. Paul's HS) headed in a
Joshua Menard (Lafayette, La./Lafayette HS) free kick to put the game away for the Bucs.
The Bucs out-shot Ouachita 15-9, including a 5-2 edge in shots on goal.
Daniel Johnson (Lafayette, La./Lafayette HS) made two saves en route to his second shutout of the season.
With the win, the Bucs put themselves in strong position to earn a berth in the Gulf South Conference Tournament next month in Pensacola, Fla. The Bucs are in third place with four points, two ahead of Harding and Ouachita Baptist and one behind second-place Alabama-Huntsville. West Florida completed its GSC schedule with nine points.
The Bucs visit Harding Sunday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. before finishing their conference slate next Wednesday afternoon at Alabama-Huntsville.
