Connor Wetzel scored 17 points as the Bucs won 54-49 over Alabama-Huntsville Monday night.
Box Score MEMPHIS—After failing to hold a 12-point first-half lead, the Christian Brothers University Bucs rallied in the final minutes for a 54-49 win over visiting Alabama-Huntsville Monday night at Canale Arena.

After a nip-and-tuck first 12 minutes, the Bucs (4-2) went on a 12-2 run to open a 25-13 lead with 2:09 remaining in the first half.  Connor Wetzel (Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming HS) scored the first eight points of the run with two three-pointers and a layup.

After Cody Jones scored for UAH (4-2), Kyle Couvion (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville HS) and Zack Warner (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton HS) answered with baskets in the paint to give CBU its biggest lead of the night.

The Chargers, however, answered with a 14-4 run, capped by a Josh Magette bucket that trimmed the CBU lead to 29-27 with 15:18 remaining.  After the next six minutes were back-and-forth, Zane Campbell knocked down a three-pointer to give UAH its first lead at 40-38 with 9:32 remaining.

Couvion answered with a game-tying layup, but Campbell knocked down another three-pointer and scored a fast-break layup to lift UAH to a 45-40 lead with 8:24 remaining.

Warner and Wetzel combined for six straight points to give CBU the lead again at 46-45 with 6:09 remaining, but UAH scored the next four points to regain a 49-46 lead with 5:21 remaining.

From there, the Bucs clamped down on defense, shutting out UAH on its final eight possessions.  Four straight Warner free throws put the Bucs back in front, and Wetzel's three-pointer as the shot clock expired with 1:48 remaining gave the Bucs a 53-49 lead.  Warner tacked on another free throw to set the final margin.

Warner scored a game-high 20 points, while Wetzel scored 17 points.  Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) had eight points, nine rebounds, six assists, and two blocks.

Campbell led UAH with 10 points.  Jaime Smith scored nine, while Josh Yost and Cody Jones scored eight each.

For the game, the Bucs shot 48.8 percent (20-of-41) from the floor, including just 26.3 percent (5-of-19) from three-point range.  UAH was 42.9 percent (18-of-42) overall and 27.3 percent (3-of-11) from beyond the arc.

UAH out-rebounded the Bucs 26-23, including a 9-6 edge on the offensive boards, but the Bucs forced 11 turnovers while committing 10.

The Bucs head south for their next game, flying to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to play Nova Southeastern Thursday night at 6:30 p.m.  The Bucs come home Saturday to play Blue Mountain at 4 p.m.
