Poor Finishing Costs Bucs in 3-1 Loss

Andrew Ballard scored a 44th-minute equalizer, but Alabama-Huntsville scored twice in the second half to claim a 3-1 win over the Bucs in the GSC Semifinals Friday night.
PENSACOLA, Fla.—The Christian Brothers University Bucs out-shot Alabama-Huntsville 20-7 Friday night in the Gulf South Conference semifinals, but UAH made the most of their chances, winning 3-1 to advance to the finals.

The Chargers (6-6-4) scored first as Kyle Goncalves scored off an Andres Flores assist in the 14th minute, but Andrew Ballard (Memphis, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) scored an equalizer in the 44th minute as he collected a loose ball in the box and found the top corner.

The Bucs (8-9-2) controlled the flow for most of the second half, Goncalves burned them on a counterattack, scoring after a long ball from defender Tomokai Matsuo to give UAH the lead for good.  The Chargers tacked on another score in the 75th minute as Brett Hughson tapped in a Sean Kerber corner kick to set the final margin.

Despite the Bucs' 20-7 edge in total shots, both teams took five shots on goal.  UAH keeper Tyler Earley made four saves, while Harrison Cheatham (Franklin, Tenn./Centennial HS) and Daniel Johnson (Lafayette, La./Lafayette HS) made one save each.
