Box Score LIVINGSTON, Ala.—The Christian Brothers University Bucs went on a 34-11 run to open up a 20-point lead in the first half and never looked back in a 79-56 win at West Alabama Saturday night.
The Bucs (7-3) started the run with a
Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) three-pointer that tied the game at six with 16:25 remaining in the first half. By the time the Tigers (5-3) were able to stop the flow, the Bucs had taken a 37-17 lead on a
Connor Wetzel (Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming HS) three-pointer with 5:56 remaining in the half, the Bucs' eighth three during the run. UWA never came closer than 18 points again.
Kevin Doran (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) continued his strong play, scoring a game-high 18 points as he buried six three-pointers in 23 minutes.
Michael Drake (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS) scored 14, while
Zack Warner (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton HS) added 11 and four assists. Wetzel scored 10. Dennis had nine points, three steals, and game-highs of 11 rebounds and three blocks, while
Kyle Couvion (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville HS) had nine assists, eight rebounds, and five steals to go with his five points.
Jason Swanson and Alquan Mendenhall led UWA with 12 points each, while Trevell Coleman added 10.
The Bucs shot 53.8 percent (28-of-52) for the game, including 46.7 percent (14-of-30) from three-point range. The Tigers were 42.6 percent (23-of-54) overall and 26.3 percent (5-of-19) from three-point range.
CBU held a 34-26 edge on the boards, including a 12-10 lead in offensive rebounds, and the Bucs forced 15 turnovers while committing 13.
The Bucs come home next Saturday at 4 p.m. to take on LeMoyne-Owen at Canale Arena.
