The Bucs (19-4, 8-2 GSC West) led 45-41 with 12:36 remaining, but a 17-0 run put the Statesmen (18-5, 8-2) in front for good, taking a commanding 58-45 lead on a fastbreak layup from Joe McCray with 4:07 remaining. The Bucs could come no closer than nine points the rest of the way.
The Bucs led most of the first 28 minutes, thanks in large part to
Nick Kohs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East HS), who scored 21 of his game-high 25 points before the decisive run. The Bucs led by as many as eight points in the first half, as five straight Kohs points gave CBU a 21-13 advantage with 9:25 remaining in the first half. Kohs added nine rebounds to his 25 points in 37 minutes.
Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) logged his second straight double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Alton Robinson led the Statesmen with 20 points and nine rebounds. Chad Akins scored 16, while Joe McCray added 15.
The 12-point loss snaps a remarkable 36-game streak, during which the Bucs went 31-5 with four one-point losses and a two-point loss.
