Box Score SEARCY, Ark.—The No. 10 Christian Brothers University Bucs led for all 40 minutes as they won 77-67 in front of 2,308 fans at Harding's Rhodes Field House Thursday night to remain in a tie for first place in the Gulf South Conference West Division.
The Bucs (20-4, 9-2 GSC West) scored first when
Reggie Peyton (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) drained a three-pointer to start the game. The Bucs' defense forced five straight turnovers to start the game and shut Harding out from the field until a Kevin Brown layup with 14:03 remaining in the first half.
The Bisons (15-9, 5-6) tied the game at nine with 13:09 remaining in the first half, but
Nick Kohs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East HS) answered with five straight points and the Bucs never relinquished the lead again.
The Bucs stretched the lead to 11 points three separate times before pushing past that barrier on a Kohs basket with 8:48 remaining, part of a 10-0 run that gave CBU its biggest lead of the night at 60-44 with 8:24 to play when
Brandon Shane (Greenfield, Tenn./Greenfield HS) converted a three-point play.
The Bisons never came closer than seven points again, but
Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) threw down a fastbreak dunk as the Bucs pushed the lead back to 13 points before a Steven Barnett three-pointer set the final margin.
With the win, the Bucs clinch a 20-win season for the third straight year, just the third time in school history for CBU to string three straight 20-win years.
The Bucs shot 47.1 percent (24-of-51) from the floor to the Bisons' 36.7 percent (18-of-49). Both teams made five three-pointers, and both teams spent most of the night on the free throw line, combining for 85 free throws. The Bucs were 24-of-42 (57.1 percent) at the line to the Bisons' 26-of-43 (60.5 percent).
The Bucs will return to the court Saturday night at 5 p.m. as they host Henderson State for homecoming.
