MAGNOLIA, Ark.—Host Southern Arkansas used a 13-2 run early in the second half to take control on their way to a 52-46 win over the No. 8 Christian Brothers University Bucs, spoiling the Bucs’ chance to clinch the top seed in next week’s Gulf South Conference Tournament Thursday.
After the Bucs (21-5, 10-3 GSC West) had built a 24-19 lead with back-to-back baskets to start the second half, the Muleriders (12-13, 6-7) went on the 13-2 run, and the Bucs never regained the lead. David Noble sparked the run with a three-pointer, and a Sanchez Dade layup gave SAU a 32-26 lead with 14:10 remaining.
Reggie Peyton (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) led the Bucs with 14 points, while
Nick Kohs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East HS) scored 11.
Tony James led the Muleriders with 13 points and six assists, while Justin Stuart added 10.
The Bucs have another chance to try to clinch the West’s No. 1 seed Saturday as they host Arkansas Tech for Senior Night at 5 p.m.
