MEMPHIS—Senior catcher
Will Britt (Oxford, Miss., Oxford HS) blasted two homers, accounting for all four runs as the Christian Brothers University Bucs knocked off Loyola (La.) 4-1 Wednesday afternoon at Buc Field.
Britt put the Bucs (8-25) on the board in the bottom of the second when he blasted a solo homer to center, and he delivered the big blow in the fourth when he hit a three-run shot to nearly the same spot in center, giving the Bucs a 4-0 lead.
The Wolfpack (10-28) scored their only run in the seventh as Slade Sanders reached on a walk and later scored from third on a double play.
The run was the only blemish on a strong four-inning appearance by freshman right-hander
Matt Ariemma (Bartlett, Tenn./St. Benedict HS), who struck out three and allowed three hits and three walks to earn his first college win.
Roberto Martinez (Catano, Puerto Rico/) started the game with two scoreless innings, and
John Romo (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS),
Mitch Porwoll (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian HS), and
Ryan McCabe (Richmond, Texas/B.F. Terry HS) closed the game out with a scoreless inning each. McCabe picked up his first save of the year in the victory.
Britt finished 2-for-3 with two homers and four RBI, while
Rocky Escajadillo (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) was 3-for-4 with three singles.
