MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Bucs scored all 11 goals in the first half as they cruised to an 11-0 win over Rust in the season opener Thursday night at Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
The Bucs (1-0) started the scoring in the seventh minute as
Zach Tubinis (Memphis, Tenn./Houston HS) scored the first of three goals. He scored again just 49 seconds later to double the lead.
Alex Bermel (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) scored back-to-back goals in the ninth and 11th minutes, and Tubinis completed the hat trick in the 12th minute to give CBU a 5-0 margin.

Joshua Menard (Lafayette, La./Lafayette HS),
Yannick Skull (Adelaide, Australia/Woodcroft College),
Eric Taylor (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS),
Matt Sihvonen (Covington, La./St. Paul's HS),
Ethan Himel (Houma, La./Vanderbilt Catholic HS), and
Billy Otieno (Ngong, Kenya/Kanunga HS) scored a goal each to set the final margin at 11-0 in the 39th minute.
Bermel and Tubinis posted six points each, with Bermel adding a pair of assists to his two goals.
David Skull (Adelaide, Australia/Woodcroft College),
Gordon Blum (Houma, La./Vanderbilt Catholic HS), and Patricio Gonzalez added an assist each for the Bucs.
Harrison Cheatham (Franklin, Tenn./Centennial HS) and
Evan Edwards (Paris, Tenn./Henry County HS) each played a half in goal for the Bucs.
The Bucs will return to Mike Rose Soccer Complex Friday as they take on Indianapolis at 5 p.m. on Mike Rose Field 13. The Bucs also play Sunday at Mike Rose Field 15 against Florida Tech. Kickoff has been moved to 11:30 a.m. due to Florida Tech's travel arrangements.
