MEMPHIS—Visiting Florida Tech scored the only goal just 21 seconds into Sunday's game against the Christian Brothers University Bucs, and they held on for a 1-0 victory at Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
The Panthers (2-0) pounced with a counterattack as the Bucs (1-1-1) tried to push forward off the opening kickoff. After FIT stole the ball, Naru Wild-Putsorn led Stanley Abada into a 1-on-1 with CBU keeper
Harrison Cheatham (Franklin, Tenn./Centennial HS), and he found the net.
Neither team would score again, as the Bucs out-shot Florida Tech 10-9 for the game. The Panthers held a 6-4 edge in shots on goal. Cheatham made five saves, while FIT keeper Derrick Hackett made four saves.
The Bucs return to action next weekend as they travel to Quincy, Ill., for a pair of neutral-site games. They play Truman State (Mo.) Saturday at 5 p.m., and they take on Lindenwood (Mo.) Sunday at 5 p.m.
