Doran's 19 Carry Bucs Past Harding

Kevin Doran scored 19 points to lead the Bucs to a 67-63 win at Harding Thursday night.
Box Score SEARCY, Ark.—Christian Brothers University sophomore forward Kevin Doran (Memphis, Tenn., St. Benedict HS) scored 19 points to lead the Bucs to a 67-63 Gulf South Conference West Division victory at Harding Thursday night.

The Bucs (12-5, 2-2) blazed the nets from three-point range in the first half, making 7-of-11 threes in the first half to build a small lead.  Doran buried his second three to put the Bucs in front for good 35-33 with 2:09 remaining in the first half.

In the second half, Doran buried three more triples in rapid succession to keep the Bucs in front by six, and a monster put-back dunk by Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) gave the Bucs a 52-44 lead with 11:57 remaining.

The Bucs appeared to have pulled away for good when Zack Warner (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton HS) and Kyle Couvion (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville HS) made back-to-back layups to extend the lead to 61-51 with 5:35 remaining, but Harding (8--8, 1-3) held CBU scoreless for the next five minutes as they whittled the lead down to 61-59 on a Kirk Porter layup with 2:01 remaining.  After each team missed a pair of chances, freshman Michael Drake (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS) drove for a layup with 34 seconds remaining to snap the Bisons' run.  From there, the Bucs made all four free throws to put the win on ice.

Doran's game-high 19 led the way as he made 7-of-9 shots, including 5-of-7 from three-point range.  Warner scored 14 points with five assists, and Dennis had 12 points.  Couvion scored nine points and had five assists and five rebounds.

Porter, Kevin Brown, and Trent Morgan scored 12 each for Harding.  Matt Ragsdale had 11, and Sam Brown added 10.

The Bucs shot 11-of-24 (45.8 percent) from three-point range and 25-of-53 (47.2 percent) overall, making all six free throw attempts.  Harding finished 23-of-43 (53.5 percent) overall and 6-of-15 (40 percent) from three-point range.

CBU out-rebounded the Bisons 25-19, including a 7-2 edge in offensive rebounds, and the Bucs forced 13 turnovers while committing 12.

The Bucs return to the court at Canale Arena Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. as they host Henderson State.
