MEMPHIS—Senior striker
Gideon Leteyian (Namanga, Kenya, Kiluani New Life Secondary School) capped a spectacular sequence with the game's only goal as the Christian Brothers University Bucs won 1-0 over Alabama-Huntsville Wednesday night to stay alive in their quest for a Gulf South Conference Tournament berth.
Just under 10 minutes into the second half,
Michael Hollier (Lafayette, La./Teurlings HS) fired a shot for the Bucs (6-8-1, 2-2-0 GSC), but it was blocked and partially cleared.
Yannick Skull (Adelaide, Australia/Woodcroft College) headed the ball back into the box, where
Ethan Himel (Houma, La./Vanderbilt Catholic HS) flicked it ahead to Leteyian, who scored on a sliding shot.
From there, neither side could find the net as CBU keeper
Jaime Garcia (San Salvador, El Salvador/Lincoln School) made all three of his saves in the final half hour, as well as a team save on an otherwise open net.
The Bucs out-shot UAH (3-11-0) 26-12, including a 10-4 edge in shots on goal.
The Bucs will step out of GSC play Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. as they play Delta State in a non-conference game. The Bucs end the regular season Tuesday against Harding. Kickoff time has not yet been set.
