Warner's Dominant Effort Carries Bucs 67-56

Zack Warner scored a career-high 30 points as the Bucs won 67-56 over Lane Friday night in the season opener for both schools.
Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Bucs outscored visiting Lane 24-10 over the final 12 minutes on their way to a 67-56 win in the season opener for both schools in the Conference Challenge Tipoff Classic.

The Bucs (1-0) trailed 46-43 with 12:13 remaining after a fastbreak dunk by Sha'mar Nolen, but back-to-back buckets by Zack Warner (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton HS) and Harry Green (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) as well as an Alex Rogers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills HS) free throw sparked the decisive run.  Warner would go on to score 11 of his game-high and career-high 30 points during the run.

Warner did most of his damage at the free throw line, making 14-of-16 free throws.  He also added nine rebounds and four assists in 38 minutes.  Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) opened the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Harry Green (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) made an impressive debut with eight points, three steals, two assists, and no turnovers in 37 minutes.

Gregory Lott led Lane (0-1) with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Jeremy Anderson scored 15 points on five three-pointers.

The Bucs struggled from the floor, shooting just 38 percent (19-of-50) overall and 25.9 percent (7-of-27) from three-point range.  The Bucs shot 75.9 percent (22-of-29) from the free throw line.  Lane was 41.5 percent (22-of-53) overall and 33.3 percent (6-of-18) from three-point range.

The Bucs out-rebounded Lane 37-24, including a 15-8 lead on the offensive boards.

The Bucs have a short turnaround as they take on LeMoyne-Owen tomorrow at 6 p.m.  Harding knocked off LeMoyne-Owen 86-81 in overtime in the first game of the classic.  Harding plays Lane tomorrow at 4 p.m. before the Bucs' game with LOC.
