Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio, Sycamore HS) scored nine of his team-high 20 points during the Bucs' 14-0 game-opening run Saturday night against LeMoyne-Owen, and the Bucs never trailed in a 62-51 win.
Dennis opened the scoring with a layup on the game's first possession. After a
Zack Warner (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton HS) three-pointer, Dennis scored another layup. Warner followed with a dunk, and after Dennis scored a three-point play and a jumper, the Bucs (2-0) led 14-0 just five minutes into the game. The Magicians (0-2) never came closer than seven points the rest of the way.
The Bucs extended their lead to as many as 20 points on an
Alex Rogers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills HS) layup early in the second half. The Magicians whittled the lead back to nine points in the final minute before a
Harry Green (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) layup set the final margin at 62-51.
Dennis finished with game-highs of 17 rebounds and seven assists to go with his 20 points.
Daniel Wulker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller HS) scored a career-high 10 off the bench, while Green had seven points, four rebounds, and three assists in 37 minutes.
A.J. Nance led the Magicians with 21 points, four assists, and four steals. Jerry Hampton added 18 with five rebounds off the bench.
The Bucs out-rebounded the Magicians 35-23, with each team committing 10 turnovers. The Bucs shot 47.3 percent (26-of-55), including 33.3 percent (6-of-18) from three-point range, while LOC was 45.7 percent (21-of-46) overall and 25 percent (3-of-12) from beyond the arc.
The Bucs will complete their stretch of three games in four days Monday night at 7 p.m. as they take on West Georgia in their first of four Gulf South Conference crossover games.
