Box Score MEMPHIS—Faced with their first late deficit of the season, the Christian Brothers University Bucs out-scored visiting West Georgia 15-6 over the final 4:38 Monday night to come back and win 66-59 to remain unbeaten.
After spotting West Georgia (1-1) a 14-8 lead in the first eight minutes, the Bucs (3-0) dominated the rest of the half. A 19-4 run capped by a
Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) three-pointer with 4:18 remaining in the half lifted the Bucs to a 27-18 lead. They would eventually stretch the margin to 11 early in the second half when a
Harry Green (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) three-pointer with 17:28 remaining gave them a 40-29 lead.
The Wolves steadily chipped away at the lead, eventually taking a 53-51 lead of their own on a fast-break basket by Deion Sims with 4:58 remaining. The Bucs tied it when
Zack Warner (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton HS) made two free throws after being fouled on a rebound.
Harry Green (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) sank a jumper in the paint to put the Bucs in front, then Warner set up back-to-back backdoor layups from Dennis and Green pushed the lead to 59-53. UWG scored the next four to come within two points, but Warner, Dennis, and
Cory McArthy (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College HS) combined to make seven of eight free throws in the final minute to ice the victory.
Dennis turned in his third straight dominant performance with 20 points, 15 rebounds, three assists, and three blocks in 38 minutes. McArthy scored a career-best 13 points, making three first-half three-pointers to help the Bucs open the 10-point halftime edge. Warner scored 12 with six rebounds and three blocks, while Green added 11.
Ryan Godfrey led UWG with 14 points. Justin Cumming scored 13, while Gavin Field added 12 and Deion Sims had 10.
After three games in four days, the Bucs have most of the week off before traveling to Highland Heights, Ky., to play in the John L. Griffin/Lions Club Classic at Northern Kentucky University. The Bucs face the host Norse Friday night at 6:45 p.m.
