Big Second Half Carries Bucs in 80-55 Win

Michael Drake scored 15 points as the Bucs cruised to an 80-55 win at North Alabama Saturday afternoon.
Box Score FLORENCE, Ala.—The Christian Brothers University Bucs outscored host North Alabama 37-17 over the final 17:11 as they pulled away for an 80-55 non-conference victory Saturday afternoon.

The Bucs (6-2) threatened to pull away early in the game, building their lead to as many as 16 points when an Alex Rogers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills HS) basket with 7:13 remaining gave CBU a 34-18 lead.  The Lions (3-5) scored 16 straight points to tie the game back up at 34 on a Ricky Davison layup with 3:00 remaining in the half.

The Bucs took the lead for good with a 9-0 spurt to end the half.  After the Lions scored the first four points of the second half, the Bucs went on a 16-2 run to open up a 59-40 lead on a Daniel Wulker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller HS) layup with 9:13 remaining, and UNA never came closer than 16 points again.

Zack Warner (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton HS) led the Bucs with a game-high 25 points and nine rebounds.  Michael Drake (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS) and Harry Green (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) scored 15 each, and Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) grabbed a dozen rebounds to go with five assists, four steals, and six points.

Davison led the Lions with 19.

The Bucs shot a season-high 60 percent (27-of-45) from the floor, including 53.3 percent (8-of-15) from three-point range.  They shot 90 percent (18-of-20) at the free throw line.  UNA was 37.5 percent (18-of-48) overall 28.6 percent (6-of-21) from beyond the arc.  The Bucs out-rebounded UNA 33-20, and both teams committed 15 turnovers.

The Bucs will return to action Tuesday night at 7 p.m. when they visit No. 10 Montevallo.  Their next home game is Thursday night at 7 p.m. against Williams Baptist.
