Bucs Upset No. 5 Falcons 61-55

Zack Warner scored 13 points, and his five blocks tied for the third-most in school history as the Bucs took down No. 5 Montevallo 61-55 Tuesday night.
Box Score MONTEVALLO, Ala.—The Christian Brothers University Bucs shot a season-high 64.7 percent from the floor and held No. 5 Montevallo more than 22 points below their season average as they held on for a 61-55 win Tuesday night, marking the first time in school history CBU has defeated a team ranked in the top five.

The Bucs (7-2) took control for good early, as back-to-back Harry Green (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) threes sparked a 19-2 run that lifted the Bucs to a 25-10 advantage on a Green three-point play with 10:06 remaining in the half.  Green scored 12 of his team-high 14 points in the run.

The lead swelled to as many as 19 points when Zack Warner (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton HS) knocked down a jumper with 3:39 remaining in the half, putting the Bucs ahead 35-16.  From there, the Falcons (6-1) steadily fought their way back into the game, cutting the lead to 45-38 on a Jonas Brown bucket with 13:24 remaining, and they pulled within three when a Cecil Coleman jumper cut the Bucs' lead to 53-50 with 6:30 remaining.

Michael Drake (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS) answered with a layup and a three-pointer to push the lead back to eight points, and Montevallo never seriously threatened again.

Green scored his 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.  Warner scored 13 and tied for the third-highest single-game block total in school history with five, one off the record held by Kenny Blake and Matt Francis.  Drake scored 12, while Dennis added 11.

Brown led the Falcons with 18 points.  Antoine Davis scored 13, and Coleman added 10.

The Bucs were 22-of-34 (64.7 percent) from the floor, the seventh-best percentage in school history, and their 10-of-17 (58.8 percent) performance from beyond the arc was tied for the sixth-best mark in school history.  The Bucs were a scorching 72.2 percent (13-of-18) in the first half, including 70 percent (7-of-10) from three-point range.

The Bucs held Montevallo to 41.1 percent (23-of-56) overall, limiting a Falcon squad averaging 77.2 ppg to a season-low 55 points.

The Bucs out-rebounded the Falcons 29-23, but they committed a season-high 22 turnovers while forcing just seven.

The Bucs return home Thursday night at 7 p.m. as they take on Williams Baptist.
