Bucs Hold Off Reddies 74-62

Alex Rogers scored 11 points as the Bucs won 74-62 at Henderson State Saturday afternoon.
Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—The Christian Brothers University Bucs led for all 40 minutes as they rolled to a 74-62 win at Henderson State, remaining in fourth place in the Gulf South Conference West Division heading into the season's final week.

The Bucs (16-9, 6-6 GSC West) scored the game's first six points and never looked back.  They used an 11-2 burst featuring five backdoor layups over a 2:55 span of the first half to extend the lead to 19-8 on a Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) three-point play with 13:18 remaining in the half, and they remained ahead by nine points or more for the next 18 minutes.

The Reddies (8-17, 1-11) went on an 8-0 run in the second half to close the CBU lead to 47-43 on a Lance Smith dunk with 14:32 remaining, but the Bucs answered with a 14-3 run to put it away.

Scott Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) led the Bucs with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Zack Warner (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton HS) collected 15 points and seven rebounds.  Kyle Couvion (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville HS) scored 15 points, while Alex Rogers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills HS) added 11.

Lance Smith led the Reddies with 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Vincent Patterson added 13.

The Bucs shot 52 percent (26-of-50) from the floor, scoring 20 of their 26 baskets in the paint.  They shot 85 percent (17-of-20) from the free throw line but continued to struggle from three-point range, shooting 29.4 percent (5-of-17), marking their seventh game in the last 10 to be under 30 percent from three-point range.  The Reddies shot 49.1 percent (26-of-53) for the game.

The Bucs come home for a critical GSC West game Thursday night at 7 p.m. against Southern Arkansas, when they will celebrate Senior Day for Kyle Couvion (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville HS).
