MEMPHIS—An 86th-minute equalizer and an own goal in overtime lifted No. 6 Montevallo to a 2-1 overtime win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Tuesday night at Signaigo Field, spoiling the Bucs' late lead.
The Bucs (2-4-1) struck first in the 68th minute when
Andrew Ballard (Memphis, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) won a loose ball in the box and spun around the defender. His first shot drew post, but he tapped in the rebound to put the Bucs on the board.
Freshman goalkeeper
Jaime Garcia (San Salvador, El Salvador/Lincoln School) made four saves in the next 17 minutes to keep the Bucs ahead, but the Falcons (6-0-1) finally broke through as Daniel Pelletier scored on the rebound after Garcia punched his first shot away to the crossbar.
In the overtime, Montevallo scored the game winner as a CBU defender attempted to clear a corner kick, but the ball spun off his foot and into the net to hand the Bucs a heartbreaking defeat.
The Falcons out-shot the Bucs 17-11, including an 11-6 margin in shots on goal.
The Bucs return to the field Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. as they host Lambuth in their final tune-up before beginning Gulf South Conference play at Delta State next Wednesday.
