MEMPHIS—Nova Southeastern forward Aly Hassan scored both goals as the visiting Sharks edged the Christian Brothers University Bucs 2-1 in double overtime in the season opener for both squads Friday night at Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
Hassan scored the game's first goal for the Sharks (1-0) in the 62nd minute as Stian Roa and Chris Pruitt set him up for the score.
Yannick Skull (Adelaide, Australia/Woodcroft College) scored the equalizer in the 66th minute, and neither team would score until Hassan's golden goal in the 106th minute of a pass from Simon Nett.
CBU (0-1) goalkeeper
Jaime Garcia (San Salvador, El Salvador/Lincoln School) made six saves in his first appearance in a CBU uniform.
The Sharks out-shot CBU 19-10 for the game, including a 3-0 edge in the second overtime.
The Bucs return to the field Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. as they take on No. 23 Lynn. The game will be played at Echles Field on the University of Memphis campus.
