MEMPHIS—A 33rd-minute goal by Kyle Conrad lifted No. 23 Lynn to a 1-0 victory over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Sunday afternoon at Echles Field on the University of Memphis campus.
Conrad capitalized on a cross from Harold Gracholski, putting the ball past CBU keeper
Jaime Garcia (San Salvador, El Salvador/Lincoln School) for the game-winner to lift the Knights to a 2-0 start.
From there, the Bucs (0-2) held their ground defensively, with Garcia and second-half goalkeeper
Daniel Johnson (Lafayette, La./Lafayette HS) combining for 10 saves, plus an 11th from defender
Paul O'Neill (Falkirk, Scotland/St. Mungo's HS), who headed away a Luke Magill shot in the 88th minute. Lynn goalkeeper Alessandro Salvatore made two saves as he earned his first shutout of the year.
For the game, the Knights out-shot CBU 24-10, including a 12-2 edge in shots on goal.
The Bucs hit the road next weekend for a pair of games in northeastern Georgia. They visit Young Harris Friday at 4 p.m., and they take on Lander at Young Harris Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. Their return to Signaigo Field is set for Friday night, Sept. 17, when they face Rhodes at 7 p.m.
